Markets in Mexico: Location and Logistics

Just the facts, ma'am
This book contains an exhaustive volume of data and statistics about Mexico and its states that you simply can't find ANYWHERE else.

I use it in my law/consulting firm in Monterrey on a daily basis.

I have looked for other publications, and nothing exists like this book, put out by the American Chamber of Commerce.

My only worry is that if enough people find out about this, I might be out of a job!

Marky & the Mouse

Children's Librarian raves about the new Marky Series
I have the responsiblity of finding quality but fun books for readers of all types to not only enjoy the stories, but leaving the reader wanting more. Marky & The Mouse is exactly such a book. It not only is an excellant choice for reluctant readers because of the text, but also very enjoyable. It is written as if a real eight year old is telling you about his life and troubles not only with his 11 year old sister, but a MOUSE that is in his house. This book is almost two stories in one with the tales Marky spins about his sister, but also the challenge his dad is faced trying to catch the mouse. The artwork is done just as well as the story, and feel this is a great new series that every library or household would enjoy.

Marky & the Rat

What a fun story!
This book was fun to read with my children. They enjoyed the adventures of Marky and his friend Jack with the school's rat over the Christmas holidays. It was funny how they worked together with Marky's sister; we enjoyed how Marky and Missy (the brother and sister) were REAL, with a little bit of tension between them, but willing to work out their differences and be a team in the end. I will read this book over and over again with my children, ages 3 and 7. My older child can even read it with my younger child for a fun experience for both of them.

Master TungÕs Western Chamber Romance
Published in Paperback by Columbia University Press (15 April, 1994)
Authors: Chieh-Yuan Tung and Li-Li Chen
Average review score:

Beautiful, Historical, Racy!
Master Tung's Western Chamber Romance is a lovely example of the vernacular story in traditional Chinese Literature. Written in stunning verse interspersed with prose, the story chronicles the seemingly ill-fated love affair of the scholar Chang and his love, Ying-Ying. The pair endure many of the same hardships as modern couples: miscommunication, forbidding mothers, and family influence among them. In addition to the lovers' travails, the story includes intrigue, an attempted attack by rebels, and deception, all told lilting verse and clever prose. The characters are well rounded for an older piece of Chinese literature, and story flows easily. Despite being several hundred years old, this piece from the 12th century has endured time and is still a lively, interesting and relatable story today.

A Match Made in Texas (Harlequine Superromance, No 680)
Published in Paperback by Harlequin (February, 1996)
Author: Ginger Chambers
Average review score:

Love those cowboys!
As is the case with almost all romances, the characters are attracted to and fall in love with each other all to quickly. What sets this story apart from most others is the very real tragedy described in it. It has a very sad background story that is a focal point in the beginnings of the romance.

My favorite part of this book though is the family ranch dynamics described. I always love books with rough and handsome cowboys, but I like this one because it includes his family and their relationships that carry on through the rest of the West Texas series. Ginger Chambers did an excellent job with this series.

Milestones
Published in Unknown Binding by University of Toronto Press ()
Author: Jack Chambers
Average review score:

Outstanding biography of jazz giant
A well-written and unbiased account of Miles Davis, the controversial jazz superstar. Davis stayed at the forefront of his art for so long that his biography reads like a history of jazz from bebop to fusion. A thoroughly annotated discography is woven through the text. Eric Nisenson, author of another book on Davis, says that Milestones is not just the best book on the subject, but perhaps the best biography of a jazz musician *ever*.

Military Music of the American Revolution

Definitive work for fifing and drumming in 18th century.
This wonderful book contains tons of useful and interesting information if you are at all interested in 18th century military music. It can be a bit of a dry read, but if you are doing any kind of research for period fifing and drumming, you must read this...

Missionary Daughter: Witness to the End of the Ottoman Empire
Published in Paperback by 1stBooks Library (July, 2002)
Author: Dorothea Chambers Blaisdell
Average review score:

Window into a forgotten past
Dorothea Chambers Blaisdell, born in 1896, grew up in southeastern Turkey, daughter of a pioneer Congregational misionary couple. She left this manuscript when she died in 1985. Her son and daughter have now had it published. The world of Christian missions has changed dramatically since the early 20th Century. Its leisurely pace, with delightful summers in the mountains, is long gone. Dorothea's story is very personal, and in that is its delight. She tells relatively little of her father's work, but enough to know that he was a powerful man of faith.
One of the books great values is the heart-wrenching story of the persecution of the Armenians with which Nesbitt Chambers, her father, worked. That painful period of history is usually forgotten. Dorothea brings it to life.
Her story ends as a young adult. After being educated in America, she went back to Turkey as a YWCA worker, again to witness social disruption. Her story is sub-titled "Witness to the Fall of the Ottoman Empire." I highly recommend this very personal story of that tumultuous time in history.
